ESI is building Europe’s Generative AI Skills Academy
GenAISA brings together 13 organisations across 7 European countries to close the generative AI skills gap. ESI leads the work package that builds the Academy itself — the platform, the online courses and the micro-credentials. The courses are open, online and free.
Co-funded by the European Union · Erasmus+ Alliances for Education and Enterprises · Project 101179990Why Europe needs this
Generative AI is creating job roles faster than education systems can describe them, let alone teach them. Profiles such as Generative AI Engineer and Prompt Engineer are already being hired for, with no established training pathway behind them.
GenAISA closes that gap in the open. The project maps the emerging roles against ESCO, the EU classification of skills and occupations, builds two full curricula from them — one for higher education, one for vocational education and training — and publishes the learning resources openly, so that any institution in Europe can take them and reuse them.
Project targets
What GenAISA builds
A complete, open training pathway — from the job profiles employers are hiring for, through curricula and learning resources, to an online academy and a verified credential.
Curricula
One for higher education, one for vocational education and training, both integrating micro-credentials.
Open learning resources
Texts, short videos, presentations, quizzes and challenges, published for anyone to reuse.
Online courses
Five for higher education and five for VET, delivered through the Academy.
Digital Skills Passport
A verified record of the generative AI and resilience skills a learner has proven.
Learners in the pilots
Students and working professionals across Greece, Bulgaria, Spain, Finland and Lithuania.
Stakeholders reached
Educators, employers and policymakers informed through workshops, events and project channels.
All public results are released under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial licence, so any education or training provider in Europe can adopt them.
ESI’s role in GenAISA
ESI leads Work Package 4 — the work package that turns the project’s curricula into something a learner can actually use. It runs for the full duration of the project.
Leads the technology work package
ESI is lead beneficiary for WP4: the Digital Skills Passport, the online academy and the Virtual World for resilience training.
Builds and runs the Academy
ESI leads the task that develops and maintains the academy platform and its online courses, and owns the delivery of the academy as a project result.
Brings the results into practice
ESI integrates the project’s job profiles, curricula and learning resources into its own training offering, including joint courses with Bulgarian universities.
Two Academy courses developed by ESI
ESI has developed two courses for the GenAISA Academy’s Essentials Track:
- Prompt Engineering — practical prompt design, multi-turn dialogue and evaluating AI responses.
- Security, Compliance, and Ethical Use of Generative AI — recognising AI-related threats, protecting sensitive data and using generative AI responsibly.
ESI is a not-for-profit research centre based at Sofia Tech Park, working to raise the competitiveness of the ICT industry in Eastern Europe. See our wider project portfolio.
